Using an OM System TG-7 in an Olympus Tough TG-5, TG-6 Housing
In September 2023, OM System released the TG-7, the first Tough series camera since acquiring Olympus. It's nearly identical to its predecessor, the TG-6, with minor changes to the grip design. One subtle alteration affects its compatibility with existing Ikelite housing for TG-5 and TG-6 cameras. The side profile of the TG-7 now slopes gently, causing interference with the housing's support ribs.
This interference only applies to housings manufactured before October 1, 2023 (serial numbers UC68462 and lower). Housings made after that date accommodate TG-5, TG-6, and TG-7 cameras seamlessly.
For those with older housings, here are your options:
-
Send the housing to us for a 125 EUR modification of the support rib (plus return shipping).
-
Carefully use strong clippers to remove part of the lower right support rib, taking care not to damage the o-ring sealing surface. However, note that this modification is at your own risk, and it may void the housing's warranty.
Please be aware that the TG-7 is not compatible with Ikelite housings designed for TG-1, TG-2, TG-3, or TG-4 cameras. If you're considering an upgrade, there are better budget camera options available in the market.
